IESE World Economics Briefing

JCI Alabang attends the IESE World Economics Briefing

MAKATI, Philippines — It was a great day of learning and fellowship as renowned economist and IESE Business School Professor Pedro Videla presented the World Economic Outlook for this year 2015 at the Makati Shangrila Hotel. Two sessions were held last September 10, 2015 to senior business leaders and managers from industries that operate across borders. The morning session was geared towards more senior leaders while the evening session was for the IESE alumni, managers, and friends.

IESE alumni, future students, JCI members, friends, and guests were treated to informative sessions of what the current global situation is and where the global economy is headed. Insights from past economic history, to the impacts on the recessions of countries such as China and Greece were brilliantly interconnected by Professor Videla.

As for his insights in the outlook of the Philippine economy, he was still positive with the economic growth of our nation. Factors like the rise of the BPO sector here and high overseas Filipino worker remittances have given this country a boost in terms of having a bullish economy for the past five years. Although consumption would be at a high for most of the Philippine economy, the lack of infrastructure would be a hindrance to a more effective growth. The country’s lack of roads and an efficient public transport system would be detrimental to the Philippine’s economic growth.

Before the forums ended, Anjaney Bowankar, IESE’s Regional Director for Southeast Asia and India provided some information on some of the programs that IESE has to offer. The most recent one is the Inaugural World Executive MBA that would start by early 2016. Overall these were remarkable events full of insights that kept us up to date on how we can adapt to the economic conditions we face in national and global perspective.  The sessions are organized by IESE Business School with much assistance from IESE Alumni Carina Gemperle and Gigi Zulueta.

Through the effort of JCI Alabang President Aimee Flordeliza and Local Training Director Gabriel Gonzalez, both alumni of IESE MBA program, JCI members were invited to this unique learning event. Those in attendance included JCI Philippines National President-Elect Steve Tycangco, JCI Alabang 2014 President Vicky Martinez, JCI Perlas Pasay President Maje Mambo, JCI Makati Princess Urduja President Yvette Deloso, JCI Alabang board of directors and members, and JCI Perlas Pasay members. Friends from the Rotary Club of Alabang and the Muntinlupa Real Estate Board also got to attend the informative sessions. JCI Alabang looks forward to events with the IESE Business School.
